I am not holding my breath for a day during my lifetime when women aren’t ever objectified in ridiculous fast food advertising, because this sort of thing keeps happening over and over.
But this particular ad disturbs me more than a lot of others. I think its because, as Jezebel blogger Katy puts it:
The woman here is not excited about the giant sandwich looming near her face. She is empty and submissive, as pliable as a plastic doll.
Burger King has a particularly deplorable reputation in advertising. Remember the “Whopper Virgins” campaign? Not to mention the lawsuits due to race and sex discrimination. Racist, sensationalist, sexist. Not to mention, unhealthy.
