“She Should Run”

Yesterday, the Women’s Rights section of change.org had an article titled “You – Yes, You! It’s Time To Run For Elected Office” that is essentially a call for more women to run for office.  It states that “many women won’t think to run for office unless someone asks” and “women win elections at the same rate as men – but they just don’t run as often.”

It provides the statistics that there are 17 women who serve in the U.S. Senate, 73 in the House, 72 in statewide elective executive posts, and that the proportion of women in state legislatures is 24.3%.  Of course, all are horrible numbers.

The article announces that the Women’s Campaign Forum (WCF) has resources to help women run for office and that there is a new “campaign to encourage 2,500 women to run for elected office in the She Should Run program- and all you need to do is sign up”:

She Should Run will help you make that ask – for a woman in office that you want to seek a higher position, for someone you know who isn’t running and then for yourself. Submit their name and let WCF takes care of the rest – giving her the support, resources, and information she needs to make an informed decision. It’s a powerful grassroots tool to build a political pipeline of women candidates to ensure that we reach gender equality in public office. . . So, what are you waiting for?

They are asking that bloggers blogicize the campaign.  Best of luck on what should be a valuable campaign!
