Good news: The Matthew Shepard and James Byrd, Jr. Act has just passed the Senate vote, and will end up on Obama’s desk sometime soon. Obama has pledged to sign it. This is the first federal law for protecting LGBTQ Americans. It expands current hate crime legislation to cover sexual or gender identity.
